About the Glossary

Despite my attempts to write the website in a simple, layman language, it is impossible to avoid some botanical jargons. Therefore, I have set up this page so that all technical terms found in the website will eventually be properly defined here. Do check up this page periodically as I add more terms to make it a comprehensive botanical glossary.

Note that some words actually have more then one accepted definition, but I have only chosen one. This will be the one applied to the descriptions in Urban Forest.

I rely on 3 main resources to build up this Glossary:

The Cambridge Illustrated Glossary of Botanical Terms is an excellent reference which I refer to all the time. Beside the worded glossary, it also comes with illustrations of every single flora anatomy. Wikipedia always provides a quick and comprehensive source of information. Do be assured that I always do my check with secondary references whenever I use any points from there. WordWeb is a very handy and light-weight dictionary software that I have been using for many years. It gives the meaning of a word by first highlighting it and then clicking on a short-cut key.

While I tried my best to paraphrase all of the definitions, I might be less meticulous than expected at times. If you think you spot any hint of plagiarism, do let me know and I will look into it.
