Diagnostic: Cyperus compactus can be found in scrublands here. The infloresences appear as clusters of spikes supported by long bracts of more than 30cm. In case my photos are not diagnostic enough, a good illustration of the species can be viewed here.

Interesting Facts: The Compact Sedge can be found in wet soggy areas in swamps, grasslands, ditches, and rice fields.
