A rare mid-canopy tree growing up to 33m with a girth up to 1m, and may have buttress roots in mature individuals. It is found mainly in peat swamp and freshwater swamp forests, and a few individuals have been seen locally in Nee Soon Swamp Forest. The leaves are spirally arranged, with some serrated margins. A pair of glands can be found at the leaf base adjoining the petiole.
