A commonly cultivated fruit tree, and found casually in the forests from former plantations. It can be easily identified from the flush of ripe red fruits. The foliage is also not difficult to distinguish. The leaves are compounded, with oppositely arranged leaflets that have a light green veins, and twigs that are light brown.
The variety in Singapore is Nephelium lappaceum var. lappaceum.
